All too often in rescue, fate plays a big part in our day, as it did the day we received a call for help for one dog and met sweet Laverne. She was well past her put to sleep date but had become the staff favorite which luckily bought her more time. We heard her sad story and her prognosis and of course we were not about to walk away from her. The next day "Vernie" as she is nicknamed became part of our family.
Laverne is a 13 year old Chihuahua who was said to be found as a stray. She is blind, has double luxating patellas, several mammary tumors, a grade 4 heart murmur along with some dental and skin issues that are resolving nicely. We are not expecting adopters to be flooding our center, but we will not deny her that possibility of her angel finding her either.
For now Vernie AKA Momma is happy and comfortable, still playing and eating and she is in no discomfort . She loves to roll in the grass and sit in the sun in the evening she likes to wrestle with your hand. She is just a funny, sweet old gal.
We feel everyone deserves to live their full life out as long as there is a good quality of life, just because one is old it is not a death sentence.
