Meet Greta, Buffalo Pug’s 1500th rescue! Greta’s life was turned upside down in just a few short days. She comes from a life of neglect. Humane officers gave her owners instructions to provide better care for or lose their dogs. Officers learned that instead of making improvements, the owners allowed the dog’s conditions to worsen further. Greta was removed from the home and brought back to the shelter. The next morning we were passing through Ohio and contacted the shelter to see if we could be of any help. Long story short, within a couple hours, Greta was snoozing in a crate on her way back to New York with us.

Greta is now settling into one of our foster homes. She is a friendly girl with a typical wiggly boxer butt and she loves giving kisses. She is very thin and after 2 baths, she’s finally clean. Greta is eating several small meals throughout the day in her foster home. She doesn’t mind people being in her food, but she will not tolerate other dogs in her food dish, so she is fed alone in the kitchen. She’s a fast eater too. This behavior is completely understandable considering her background. It’s clear that she’s known the pain of hunger for far too long and it’s a simple fix in her foster home to allow Greta to eat without other dogs bothering her. She is good with the children in her foster home as well. Greta’s ideal canine mate would be her size or larger. She’s a bit too much for small dogs. There are small dogs in her foster home and she has not caused them any harm, but she’s a boxer and a better playmate would be a larger dog. She is interested in cats, but hasn’t shown any aggression towards them, so if there are cats in her forever home, they should be cats that are used to the presence of dogs.

Greta is just a wonderful girl! She’s very friendly and affectionate. She is finally getting a taste of the good life in her foster home and that’s what we intend to find for her in a forever home. She is also doing well with her housebreaking, so maybe she’s had some previous training. Greta will be available for adoption soon, so if you’d like to make her the newest member of your family, please submit your adoption application today!
