Elijah is a very special puppy that a shelter asked us to find the perfect home for. It's hard to even tell his story without tearing up. At just 3 weeks of age, someone was driving down a country road and noticed something on the side of the road. They stopped to see what it was and sadly, it was Elijah. Even worse. Someone had done something horrible to him. He was covered in blood and rushed to the local humane society.

The staff began working on him immediately. They cleaned his wounds and eased his pain and we're able to finally grasp what had happened to this boy. It appeared that someone had tied twine or something similar around 2 of Elijah's legs. This cause the circulation to be cut off; completely severing Elijah's hind leg about ¾ of the way up. His front leg was swollen nearly 3 times the correct size and the indentation from the rope or twine we're clearly visable. They managed to save Elijah's front leg and it has made a complete recovery, however as Elijah grew, he ran out of flesh to cover the remainder of his hind leg and his partial leg has been surgically amputated to the hip.

While all this was happening, Elijah was blessed to be in a wonderful foster home through the shelter. While they worked hard to heal his physical wounds, they also worked hard to heal his emotional wounds. Elijah no longer knows anything of hunger, pain, neglect or abuse. He is a true rescue dog- a testament to how resilient dogs can be. If Elijah's abuse didn't show on the outside, you'd never know the horrors this pup has endured. He is a true blessing- social, friendly, sweet and so very loving! Elijah is now in a foster home in Buffalo awaiting the right forever home. He is perfect with other dogs, cats and children He is  ready to settle into a forever home where he will be loved, cared for and cherished for the rest of his life. Elijah's troubles are over and we don't expect him to need any further procedures. He is adapting well to being a tripod and we are sure he will be a dream come true for the right family.
