Poor Gracie was found underneath a car in Buffalo. She was flea infested, underweight and had something horrible going on with her eyes.

Gracie has been in foster care for a few weeks. During that time, her foster mom has been giving her the best of care. Her fleas are gone, she’s steadily gaining weight and she’s undergone eye surgery and spay surgery. Gracie has dry eye. Due to long term neglect, her eye’s had become so dry, they’d begun to bulge which caused even more problems. Her eye lashed started growng towards and scratching at her eyes. This condition is called entropian. By the time Gracie had arrived I rescue, she was unable to even close her eyes completely and had one of the most severe cases of dry eye our vets had ever seen. In surgery, the vet closed about 1/3 of the inside of each eye lid. This makes her eye openings themselves smaller and once healed Gracie will actually be able to blink and close her eyes when sleeping. Gracie is currently on an RX eye drop and artificial tears throughout the day to keep her eyes moist and pain free. She will need these drops for the rest of her life. We do believe she is mostly blind now and we can’t be sure if she will regain any vision or not, but it is possible.

Gracie is the sweetest little girl and is so appreciative of the little things her foster mom does for her- a little love, a yummy bone and just being cared for and loved. She has learned her name and now wags her tail whenever his name is said. Gracie is great with the other dogs in her foster home and friendly with all people. Vision impairment is certainly not going to stop this girl from living the good life and after all that she’s endured, she certainly enjoys the good life from here on out.

Once she is fully healed, Gracie will be ready for her forever home. If you’d like to adopt Gracie, please submit your adoption application today!!
