Mohawk was picked up as a stray in Kentucky and taken to an overcrowded shelter. We offered to help this handsome youngster find a forever home so he'd be safe from euthanasia. Here's what his foster mom writes:

"Mohawk has been a true delight.  He was a little bit nervous when I first picked him up at BP&SBR, but less than 12 hours later, he was bonding extremely well with my two children, husband, and myself.  He loves to go for walks – even though – as a former Southern gentleman – he's not crazy about the cold (he jumped off my grass when I first put him on it)!  Mohawk is also well on his way to being house trained – he is very intelligent and wants to please “his” people. He already sits when we tell him to and takes treats very nicely from our hands.  I have only heard him bark a little when one of us leaves him alone – he likes to be where his family is.  He is quiet and will either sleep at my feet during the day or next to me on the couch.  He would be fine as an apartment dweller because he really just wants to be near you!

He is very good with my children (ages 8 and 4).  We were sure to have the kids give him some space when he first arrived.  Within two hours, he was laying next to my older son on the floor and rolling on  his back for a tummy rub! 

I am not sure how he would be with other dogs, we only have a cat.  When he first met her, there was a bit of growling.  Other than that, nothing else.  He doesn't chase her or go after her in any way and I think he would be fine with her if given some time. He doesn't voluntarily go in his crate yet and he whines for just a little bit when he's in it.  All that I've had to do is say, “Shhh,” and he quiets right down.  He sleeps quietly in there at night.  If you are looking for a handsome, sweet little dog who is smart and affectionate, Mohawk is the guy for you!"
