Sugar came to us from an overcrowded shelter in Kentucky. This beautiful girl had lived a hard life. She was a breeding dog-- like so many others. It's hard to believe but Chihuahuas are one of the most euthanized breeds in shelters simply because there are so many in need of a forever home.

We were determined to make sure that Sugar was not just another statistic lost in the shelter system. She joined our rescue and entered her foster home. Sugar is a very sweet 7 year old Chihuahua. Her photos do not do this lovely lady any justice. If you meet her, we are sure she will steal your heart.  

Sugar is a little lady at just 7 lbs but she loves to love. She enjoys the company of children, but we recommend no toddlers in the home since she is so small & fragile.  Its sometimes hard for little ones to not treat her like one of their stuffed lovies! 

Sugar is now learning how wonderful being a dog can be. She is housebroken and will even sing yuo a little song if she needs to go out. She demands lots of love and attention. Her favorite cuddle placement is to snuggle up under your chin & nuzzle on your face, neck & shoulder.

Sugar currently lives with several other small dogs, but is having some territory issues with one other female, so she may do best as an only dog or with just another male dog.

Many dogs come through our rescue program each year, but Sugar is one that stands out. She's not your textbook Chihuahua. She's an absolute doll who has quickly stolen the hearts of our volunteers. If you'd like to make Sugar part of your family, please submit your adoption application today.
