Update 2/14: Pharaoh has made an excellent recovery from Pneumonia and we are moving him to our adoptable section. He has a slight bit of an infrequent cough left and we will keep him in foster care until that clears up and the vet gives us the thumbs up. We ARE currently accepting applications for our little fighter, Pharaoh!!

Pharaoh came to BP&SBR from an overcrowded shelter in Kentucky. His owners had dumped him because they were moving and we brought him into rescue so he'd be safe from euthanasia.

Pharaoh is only 1 year old and is a wonderful little guy. We believe he's a chihuahua/dachshund mix, which in the “designer” breed world is known as a “chiweenie.” He may have a dash or this or sprinkle of that in him as well. We'd prefer to call him an All-American Mixed Breed because he certainly has the personality of one! Pharaoh loves to love. He's happy visiting his foster family's laps in the evening or snoozing in his bed with his favorite bone tucked under his arm. He is great with the other dogs in his foster home- both large and small. We haven't seen him play much with the others, but he certainly enjoys their company. Pharaoh is friendly with all people and we think he'd do just fine in a home with children 6 years of age or older because his foster family doesn't have young children and we don't know much about his past. Pharaoh is also a very quiet boy. The only time we ever hear him bark is when he's having his morning chat with the chihuahua next door. They bicker between the fence. Otherwise, he's very quiet in the home; making him a suitable match for all types of homes, even apartment dwellers.

Pharaoh does have some minor quirks. He is a very picky eater! After falling ill and recovering from Pneumonia, he is a bit on the thin side. Right now he's eating puppy food which has higher calories than adult food. This will help him gain a little weight back without having to consume more. He does love his treats throughout the day and like any teenager, her prefers junk food over the healthy stuff. Also, Pharaoh is a southern boy. Even the coldest winter days in Kentucky are an autumn breeze compared to the harsh winters in Western, NY. He is not sold on doing his duty outside in the freezing temps, but he knows he is supposed to. His foster family finds him trying to eliminate at the doorway to the outside. They keep a close eye to make sure he gets all the way out the door to do his duty, so he will need a little reinforcement. He has the knowledge- and once the weather calms a bit, it will certainly be easier to housebreak him. He is not at all a marker! He actually tinkles like a girl!

He is really a wonderful little boy in need of a wonderful home! If you'd like to make Pharaoh part of your family, please submit an adoption application today!
