The hardest thing about going to a dog pound is choosing which dogs you can take and then turning your back on the countless others that you're leaving behind. We left the shelter, only to do a u-turn 15 minutes later because we couldn't get Wendy out of our heads.

To most, Wendy is nothing special. She is a classic mixed breed who needs some meat on her bones. She came into the shelter as a stray and her owner never came to claim her. She sat in the shelter and her thin body wiggled with excitement as we passed by. We saw something special in Wendy and sometimes you just have to go with your gut. Wendy was so excited to come out of her cage. When we finally got to meet and pet Wendy, we realized that she'd thumped her tail against the counter so hard that she made it bleed. What a crazy dog, huh?So, we apologized to Wendy for not taking her the first time, put her in the car and headed back for NY. Finally out of the chaos of the shelter, Wendy fell fast asleep on our lap and enjoyed her ride to Rochester.

Wendy is now in a foster home where she is warm, loved and well fed. Wendy is great with other dogs- both big and small. There is also a cat in her foster home which she kindly accepts. She is only 1.5 years old, but she's got an old soul. She is gentle and sweet and so appreciative of everything. Wendy is about 40 lbs and should be about 50 when she is all filled out. We believe she is a boxer mix. She has boxer markings however her nose is a bit longer. Wendy is working hard on her potty training and doing very well, though she will need reinforcement until the habit is solidified. We'd love for her to go to a home with a fenced in yard or an active family who will make sure she gets walked several times a day. She is extremely loving and friendly with all. She takes her treats very nicely as well. Wendy would be best with children 8 years or older. She might be a little too low-key for very young children.

If you are looking for a loving companion dog and can promise to love and cherish Wendy forever, please submit your adoption application today.
