Ryker was found as a stray and taken to an overcrowded shelter. We offered to help this sweet guy find his forever home and he is now in one of our foster homes! His foster mom writes:

"Ryker has quickly settled into his position as my constant companion. This is a great dog- and a funny little guy! Ryker is teenie tiny. He is by far the smallest dog in my house and might be the smallest dog I've ever fostered. He about 4.5 lbs. I'd like to see him get to 5 lbs because his time on the streets left him a bit on the thin side.

There is NO doubt in my mind that this was someone's pet. He instantly bonded with me and he now sticks to me like glue. The one thing that really bothers me is the fact that Ryker was picked up as a stray. This is not the kind of dog that would wander away from his person. He is fixated on me throughout the day. He goes everywhere I go and even when we are in the backyard, he stays within 15 feet of me even though there is much more space for him to explore. What I fear is that Ryker may have been dumped by his owners- which is common in rural areas down South. We won't dwell on that though. No matter what happened to Ryker in the past, he is safe and sound here until his family comes along.

Ryker is a love bug. He loves to snuggle and sit beside me. I've found myself carrying his dog bed with me throughout the house because I know he will follow me from room to room and I want him to be comfortable. He is very tolerant of all handling and grooming. Ryker might have had some previous training, but he is not fully housebroken. We've been able to prevent all accidents by taking him outside every few hours. He knows what he is supposed to do when he is out there, but he does not know to go to the door. When we are away from home, Ryker goes in his crate. He keeps it very clean, so he has a bed and blankie in there. Ryker is pretty good on a leash, but tends to follow behind me when we go for walks. He loves treats and will dance around on his hind legs for a snack. He is eating high quality dry food and it's pretty amusing to watch him eat out of a bowl as big as he is. Ryker has not shown any interest in toys, but does love bully sticks.

I think Ryker would do fine with children, but we'll be testing that out win the coming days to be certain. What we do know about Ryker is that he is not overly fond of other dogs. It is almost comical- as we have 2 dogs of our own and other foster dogs here. We don't confine Ryker- he runs around with the others. The most dislike he's ever shown is a growl and since he is the little guy around here, the other dogs tend to just ignore him and let him think he is tough. Ryker could live with other dogs without any serious issues, but we think he would be happiest as someone's one & only.

I can't wait for this handsome little man to find his forever home. He is such a happy, fun, loving dog. This is a dog that will forever stick out in my mind as I think back about the many dogs I've fostered and adopting Ryker will be one of the best decisions you could ever make."
