Precious is one of 28 dogs that escaped an Amish Puppy Mill in Pennsylvania on April 2nd. She is one of 3 girls that joined our rescue and now, 2 months since coming into rescue she is making her debut on our website.

Precious is a 5-6 year old female bichon frise. We’d like to share a video with you so you can better understand her past. This video is graphic. Please click here if you’d like to view this video. Precious’s foster mother has given her all of the time she needs, and in just a few short months, Precious’s personality is beginning to emerge. She is a playful and curious little dog. When her foster mom gets home Precious will run to the door to greet her, although she always makes sure to stay a yard or two away. She spends most of her days with foster sibling, Lily, but will routinely peer in at her foster mother. She will sometimes run up to sniff her foster mother’s leg before darting away. She is also a very smart dog who has already begun to use the puppy pads, some of the time.

Like most puppy mill dogs, Precious is far more comfortable around dogs than people. She has developed a close bond with her foster sibling, Lily, a fellow puppy mill dog. The two spend most of their day less then a meter apart. They take comfort in each other’s company. Precious has this adorable tendency reassure Lily by laying her head on top of Lily. When the house is quiet, the two really come alive. They are very playful, and will circle the house, intensely chasing after one another, as they compensate for lost time. In her new home, we feel that Precious would benefit greatly from another canine companion who can help show her the ropes and build up her confidence.

As the days pass Precious is making many baby steps. Her stance has improved from a scared hunched over dog to one who will routinely sit up straight, almost with confidence. Precious now lets her foster mother stare into her big, beautiful eyes. Precious is becoming more comfortable with the hustle and bustle of every day life and is feeling comfortable in closer and closer proximity to humans. That being said, Precious has a long journey ahead of her. She needs a calm household, with a loving family who is understanding of her needs and will be very patient with her. She would do best in a home without kids, because she frightens easily.
