Spanky was surrendered to a shelter because his owner ran a daycare in her home and knew he would be happier in a less chaotic home. The shelter felt Spanky needed some extra help finding the right home, so he has now come into our rescue and is searching for just that!
Spanky is an adorable 17 month old pug with the face of a puppy. He is a petite pug at just 19lbs and can at times have boundless energy. He loves to scoot around the backyard and play with the other dogs; big and small. He spent about a month in the shelter and though he may have been potty trained when he came in, his current habits leave something to be desired and we are now working on reinforcing better habits.
Spanky has tons of personality. He is exquisite with other dogs and very tolerant of cats. He needs a home with no young children. Spanky loves hard! He immediately bonded to his foster mom and just loves to be by her side. He would do best in a home with one main caregiver or a couple. He feels like he needs to protect the one he cares for. He will yap and prance around and almost try to herd the strangers away from his special someone. He does not bite, and his behavior is all show but he thinks he is a tough guy. Although we must admit that his heroic “pug in fawn armor” antics are adorable, we have been working with him to help him understand that the people he attempts to thwart off are friends of his foster mom and mean no harm to him or her. Once he realizes this, he settles in quite nicely and becomes accepting of new guests, though he sticks by his foster mom’s side much of the time.
Spanky rides well in the car and likes to take walks. He does pull a bit, and needs to wear a harness when out for walks. He takes treats gently and shares his food with all around with no problems. Spanky is now looking for his forever home. We’d love to find him his new special someone that will promise him forever and mean it!
