This beautiful Pomeranian gal was one of 28 dogs rescued from an Amish Puppy Mill in Pennsylvania. She and 2 others joined our rescue to begin the life they have deserved all along. She has a tattoo in her ear that marks her #5 and that is all she has been known as her entire life. We needed a name as pretty as she was and therefore, she is now being called Ava.

Ava is a gem! She has seen unspeakable horrors and lived her entire life in a cage, treated like livestock and nothing more; only kept alive to produce puppies for sale. After a much needed grooming, Ava has shown us that she is not only gorgeous on the outside, but truly beautiful on the inside. She is tense at first, but once she realizes that people mean well, she relaxes and just sinks into your arms, ready and willing to soak up all the love she can get!

As with most puppy mill dogs, Ava has no concept of potty training, leash walking, toys or treats. Due to being kept in such cramped conditions, Ava spent the first night in her foster home walking in a circle in the living room. It took her a little while to realize that there was so much space for her now. She began to explore the house on her own and finally settled down on a small carpet in front of the kitchen sink and sprawled out belly up! She is great with other dogs, cats and children 12+. Younger children might be too much excitement for her as she adjusts to her new life.

Ava's foster family has begun working on her housebreaking, leash walking and socialization, but please know that it takes time for dogs like Ava to really spread their wings.
