Sadly, April was diagnosed with Encephalitis; a lesion on the brain causing swelling and the loss of all major body functions. After weeks of unsuccessful treatment, April crossed the bridge. She left loved by many, especially her foster mom who made sure that she knew she was loved. We are sure young, sweet April is up and running at the bridge as proud as can be!

Meet our GORGEOUS April. After having what was believed to be a seizure, April’s owners surrendered her to a high kill shelter unwilling to deal with her medical needs.

After meeting April, we just can’t figure out how anyone could give her up. She is sweet, loving, phenomenal with other dogs, great with children and walks nicely on the leash. We are happy to report that we have not witnessed any seizures in the time she has been here. She arrived sad and depressed; obviously missing someone. After spending 2 weeks with her foster mom who has gone the extra step to bring some happiness to April, she has blossomed and her personality has begun to shine!

Unfortunately, with the good comes the bad. We have a few other medical concerns. April appears to have a bit of weakness in one of her rear legs and her walk is a bit funny from time to time. She does not feel any pain there, but we are not certain what is causing her leg to give out. Also, we’ve noticed that April sometimes goes poo without knowing it. She does not intend to do this-that is apparent. She can be in the middle of playing and it just comes out. She is able to hold her piddle and goes to the door when she has to potty, but it appears that April is not able to sense when she has to go or hold it. We are now working with our vets to try to find the cause of this as well as her leg issue and will be placing her on medical hold until this problem is addressed fully. April also has cherry eye- which is mainly just a cosmetic issue that will be repaired prior to her adoption.

Don’t be discouraged- April is such an amazing girl and now that she is in rescue all of her needs will be tended to. April will need a forever home once her medical needs are resolved, and we certainly encourage you to submit an adoption application anytime, if you’d like to be her family. Please consider being one of April’s angels and sponsoring her to help with her medical needs.

April is being fostered in Rochester.
