Pepe` is an adorable 9 month old, 9 pound, Chihuahua / Pomeranian mix puppy. He had already been in three homes prior to be turned over to Buffalo Pug Rescue to find him his final and forever home. Pepe` is extremely afraid of people he does not know and he has developed quite a scary defense mechanism for himself. When approached by a stranger, he will first try to get away and hide. If that is not possible and the person insists on approaching him - he will bark, growl, snap and if pushed - bite. This is most likely due to lack of socialization when he was younger and / or a bad experience(s) with a human. It is so sad to see such terror in his little face. Once Pepe` has a chance to get to know and trust you - he is one of the sweetest, playful and most loving pups around! Within 24 hours in his foster home, he became a permanent shadow to whomever was home with him. Although he will generally hang out with his foster Mom, he thinks the foster Dad ok too! He loves to sit with his people watching TV or while they are on the computer. Giving sweet little butterfly kisses is also one of his favorite pastimes along with hanging out in the fenced yard. Pepe` gets along fine with the other dogs in the foster home, the parrot and even the guinea pigs. We were told he has lived with cats in the past and was apparently very good with them. He is still a puppy and so likes to stay active and will occasionally chew on things that he shouldn't. Pepe` did some marking the first few days in his foster home but that has diminished and being neutered next week will certainly help as well. We believe Pepe` would be most comfortable in a home that does not have a lot of different people visiting, no young children or frequent child guests, a dog-friendly doggy playmate, someone home most of the day, his master's bed to sleep in and most of all - someone with a big heart and lots of patience to cope with the inevitable adjustment period.
