Marvin is named after the great Marv Levy! He is a 7-year-old Shih Tzu who spent his younger years as a stud for a WNY breeder. He is crate trained & house broken. Although Marv previously lived in the yard of a home, he wasn't accumstomed to being treated as a loved "pet." As of now, Marvin prefers to spend most of his day quietly relaxing in the "condo" his foster family has set up for him in their living room - but grows increasingly more curious and explores his foster home a little more every day. He is a gentle little soul, but can be scared and uncertain - especially in wide open spaces. He's developed a love for squeaky toys and chew bones. He lights up like a Christmas tree around other playful dogs. He trusts his foster mom but is still learning how to be social with other people. Marv will need a home with a fully fenced yard and at least one other playful doggy sibling. His family will need to understand that it is going to take time to win his trust and affection. Speaking of affection..! Foster mom and dad think that he will be an excellent couch cuddler once he learns to trust this form of love and attention. He does not resist time on the couch when convinced to get comfy, but isn't initiating that interaction on his own yet. Marv has a healthy appetite and does not show any signs of food agression. He has not had any exposure to children or cats and does not do well on a leash (yet.)
When he came to us, his anal glands were extremelty full. Millersport Small Animal Clinic expressed them and discovered what the Dr described as a "small (3mm) nodule." This could be due to years of neglecting the glands, but they are not certain. Marv will need that area rechecked at the end of November. If the nodule is growing, it should be removed. If not, it may be a non-issue but should still be monitored from time to time. Marvin is nuetered, fully vaccinated, microchipped and ready to find his forever.
