We are often asked why we do what it is we do and we thought that we would share with everyone one of the biggest reasons... the life of the shelter dog. The Spot Society in Atlanta, GA has put together a very touching tribute to Albert, just one of the millions of shelter dogs in America that suffer the same fate.

Hi my name is Lucia and as you can see I am a typical sweet puggy girl. I am in rescue through no fault of my own. My human has gone to a better place and now I need a new family to give all my love to. Buffalo pug & small breed rescue has been so nice to help me.
Now here's your chance to help me. If you look at my pictures you will see that I have a big growth in my left ear canal, which is causing me to have repeated painful ear infections. Buffalo pugs also found that I have a lump on
my right rear foot that is mast cell cancer. Could you find it in your heart to help me by donating money for my surgery so I can lead the wonderful pain free puggy life I deserve?
My foster family says I am just the perfect pug! I know where to go potty, I love to play and I love to snuggle! I get along great with other dogs and I love kids! Adults aren't too bad either! I am the perfect bed partner, I don't even mind if you snore. I like to sit on your lap (although they have me on a diet to drop a few pounds).
If you want to be my forever family and get all my licks & cuddles, put your application in today me! If your not looking for a new family member right now, then could you find it in your heart to donate a few dollars and help me? Thank You! Love, Lucia
Lucia is a well rounded, sweet girl who loves to give kisses and would be great with any family that wants to love her in return!

Bruiser and Bentley both seem to have a flea allergy, they came in with no fleas and a gorgeous clean coat however they do have evidence of sores from flea bites it is highly recommended they are on a good repelling flea medication so they don't have to get bitten again. They both are in excellent health but can use to loose a little bit of weight. They are a little bit on the chunky side for Chihuahua's

Meet Tink! This lovely little angel has been through a lot in six short years. She was found alone, aimlessly wandering amidst a football stadium. With no place to go, she was sent to a Kentucky shelter. This would be the place she would then call home. In no time, all of the other cages had been filled with other unwanted souls and Buffalo Pugs received a cry for help. We did what was right and Tink made her way to New York.
When she arrived in Rochester, Tink was a sad little creature, her coat covered in dirt and dandruff, her body showing signs of a recent litter of pups, and trembling from head to toe. But after being given a nice bath and some desperately needed TLC, Tink’s true self is emerging. It is clear that she is a peoples dog. She is always hoping for attention from whoever will give it to her. She still bears some of the scars from her past, and was very unsure and confused about what was happening to her at first. But, Tink has begun to settle in and her inner beauty has exploded outward. She went to the pet store the other day and met a little puppy, whom she just adored! She has made other canine friends and has been wonderful with them! All Tink wants is a forever home. She takes a little time to adjust to new surroundings, but the most important thing is that she has someone with her who is going to show her tons of love. This baby deserves it!
Tink is a smart, curious dog, with a sweet disposition. She is a smaller beagle and is just over 20 lbs. She loves to explore the outdoors and cuddle with people. She would be great with anyone who is willing to give her the time she deserves to continue building her confidence. Her foster family has shown Tink tons of love and she has responded wonderfully with a wagging tail. She follows her foster mom around and just wants to be with the ones that love her. She is a very calm beagle and absolutely not the stereotypical beagle. She rarely barks!! If you are looking for a calm and devoted companion, Tink is definitely your girl! She would do fine in a home with older children, or younger children that are respectful of dogs. She is so beautiful, and her pictures do not capture the true beauty and innocence that is Tink. She will need a family that has enough patience and kindness to continue on with her potty training and help Tink on her journey to becoming more trusting of the world. Her days of being unwanted and alone are over, and with are sure that tinks forever home is out there and she can finally feel at home!

Meet Sugar! This sweet miniature dachshund is 12 lbs and about 8 years old. She is a purebred long haired dapple dachshund and is absolutely beautiful. She was found wandering all alone in Kentucky and Buffalo Pugs decided it was time for Sugar to hitch a ride to New York and start sniffing out her forever home!
She is a very sweet, gentle and affectionate dog who is looking for her forever home. Her forever home would have to include a lap to sit on often, as she loves sitting in her foster Moms lap and being petted. She wants to always be a part of the family, will follow you around everywhere. Sugar gets along well with other dogs and cats, and is fine with children. Children under 3 however do make her a little anxious so it is recommended her forever home not have children under 3 years old. Although Sugar is very gentle around the 22 month old in her foster home, she is a little uncomfortable. Sugar would just prefer a bit of a quieter home with less noise than one with a baby. It is said that long haired dachshunds are the gentlest of the 3 (long, short and, wire haired) and this sweetheart proves that true. Sugar does well in a crate and is housebroken. She may be 8 but still has a lot of spunk left in her. She is a bit of a couch potato but can certainly keep up on walks, and thoroughly enjoys them. She loves everyone, and is waiting to meet the person who will make her a loving part of their family! Come meet Sugar at the Buffalo Pug and Small Breed Rescues Adoption Center in East Rochester. Her pictures do not do her much justice, she is more gorgeous in person!

Meet our gal, Gidget, one of our newest little fur babies that really needs a special home! Gidget was found injured on the roadside in Kentucky. There is no telling what happened to her for sure, but she may have been hit by a car. This gal was brought to a shelter and the kind hearts there have helped Gidget complete her healing and most of her journey. It is now up to Buffalo Pugs to find Gidget the right family that is going to love and spoil her like the little lady she is.
In her short 4 years of life, she has endured quite a bit, but by looking at her today, you could never tell! Gidget suffered several broken bones and damaged tendons in her back legs, but is quite peppy and gets around just fine. When we first picked her up, Gidget hopped right into the the van as if she was telling us it was time to go home! So thats what we are going to do. Its time for Gidget to go home to a family that will love and cherish her. She has a wonderful, loving personality. She loves to be pet and held. Believe it or not, this beautiful girl is camera shy! We have more shots of Gidget turning away than we do of that cute little face!
She is good with other dogs and would probably be fine with cats as well. We suggest a home with older children. She is okay with the teenager in her foster home but prefers the adults. Gidget loves to go for walks and snuggle for some couch potato time. She is always runs up to her foster mom when she gets home from work and is so happy to see her. She is truly a loving little brussells!
Gidget will need an owner that is committed to furthering her training and her potty manners. She is very food motivated and with repition, she is sure to make great improvements. Her foster family is working on this, but her forever family must be willing to continue on with her training.
Gidget is an awesome little gal, she has wiggled her way into our hearts and is sure to do the same to yours. This sweetie wont be in rescue long, so submit your adoption application today!

Every dog that comes into rescue is special in their own way, but sometimes, through those cage bars you see more than just a dog that deserves better. Sometimes you see a diamond in the rough. For us, that was little Taloula. This sweet girl was surrendered by her owners to a shelter and Buffalo Pugs could not leave her behind.
Taloula is an awesome boston terrier gal. Taloula is almost 25 lbs and only 15 months old. For a young dog, she is extremely well behaved, obedient and really deserves to have a family to love and play with. She loves affection from all people and meets people graciously. She loves to play with toys and chase her rubber ball around. She could do it forever if you give her the chance!
Taloula has a beautiful personality. She is very playful with other dogs, sometimes too much so. We would suggest that if there are other dogs in her future, forever home that they be at least her size or larger. She means well but has to learn to respect when another dog is done playing. Taloula is wonderful with cats, especially kittens that want to play! She is much more gentle with cats and is sure to make good friends with any cats that she meets!
For her young age, her house manners are impeccable! She has not had any accidents in her foster home and behaves beautifully! She listens well when told to sit, is very attentive when waiting for a treat and does not pull on her leash when out for a walk. She shares her food, toys and bones very nicely with the other dogs and would be fine in a home with children. We would suggest children 6+ just so her wiggle butt does not accidentally knock any little ones over.
Taloula is a well rounded, sweet girl who loves to give kisses and would be great with any family that wants to love her in return!

This little doxie gal is Lady! She is strikingly beautiful with her long hair and loving eyes! Lady was surrendered along with her daughter Nana. Their owner loved them so very much, but just couldn't keep them.
Lady is a very spry 6 year old. She loves everyone that she meets! She is always the first one to run up and meet someone as they come in the door. She is very outgoing, enjoys going for walks or running around the backyard! She enjoys the love and attention from those around her and will try her best with her short little legs to jump up to your lap for some snuggle time! She is a joy to be around!
Lady would do fine in a home with children of any age. She also is great with other dogs and seems to really enjoy their company. Lady takes treats nicely and likes to hang out on her dog bed and chew her nylabone. She is so happy all the time, as you can tell from the blur in her pictures, her tail never stops wagging! She will need a family that is willing to further her potty training. She is almost there, but will have the occasional accident if no one is watching. Lots of praise and positive reinforcement will go along way when it comes to solving this. Lady just wants to love and be loved.

Nana is the daughter of Lady. If your looking for super sweet and loving, Nana is your girl. Although their owner loved them so very much, she couldnt keep them and Buffalo Pugs decided that we had to help these gals find their forever home!
Nana definitely got her mothers good looks! She is a beautiful 12 lb. doxie with a heart of gold! Nana is very shy at first. But once she feels comfortable, she is the biggest lovebug! She loves to snuggle and take naps on her foster mom's lap! She is super affectionate with the people she knows and wants nothing more than to be by their side.
Nana is wonderful around children of any age. She would do fine in a home with dogs or even cats! She is a little on the shy side and for that reason, needs a family that will shower her with love and affection. Once Nana comes out of her shell, she follows her human around and just wants to be by their side. Nana will need some further training, as she does have the occasional accident in the house. If she is often taken outside, she rarely has any accidents but will need someone to reward her with lots and lots of love to solidify her training.
Nana is such a wonderful, sweet little doxie who loves to just be a dog. She likes bones and treats and to be pet. She walks around with her head tilted and it just makes her even more cute!! She would do well in any home that has lots of love to give.

Meet Ruby. This sweet Pom was surrendered to an overcrowded shelter because her owners could no longer care for her.
She is a very loving little Pom. She weighs about 6 lbs and has beautiful reddish fur. To think that Ruby wasn't given a chance because of her age is heartbreaking! Ruby is 9 years young, but for a Pomeranian, that's just middle aged. Pomeranians are known to live 15-18 years! Ruby has a flea allergy which caused her to lose some of her hair. She has been treated and in no time, her fur will grow back just as beautiful as the rest of her is!
When Ruby was younger, she suffered a fractured leg. It healed unnaturally, but since it is healed, the vet feels that corrective surgery will cause her lots of pain and discomfort and is not necessary. It doesn't seem to bother her too much. She is not bothered when you touch that leg and gets around just fine. As a matter of fact, Ruby LOVES to go for walks! Her little legs will go and go until shes pooped, and then this little princess expects you to carry her back home! Its not usually a big deal, shes so tiny and petite that her foster mom doesn't mind! Oddly enough Ruby loves to take naps on the back of the couch. Watching her get into the couch is so funny! She gets a head start and then burns rubber all the way up to the cushion and then eventually all the way up to the top! She loves it up there. She is probably making up for being so little, by being so high up! She is such a funny little gal, but will make a fuss if you go to bed and leave her alone. She loves her people and wants to be with them, so an owner that is willing to share their pillow with Ruby at night would be perfect!
Ruby is not too fond of other dogs. She would do okay in a home with a more calm dog that will not pester her. She is fine in passing, but doesn't like to be bothered or pounced on by other dogs. She certainly doesn't want to play with other dogs. This little gal would much rather play with her humans!
Ruby is mostly housebroken and will use a puppy pad if she really has to go and can not get outside. She takes treats very gently and really needs a calm home where she can love someone and get their love in return. She would make a wonderful companion for a senior or for a calm couple. She would do best in a home without children, because the noise and constant activity would make her nervous. If you have the love and devotion to give to this sweet girl, you can be sure she will return that love tenfold!

This darling little fawn pug is Howie. Poor Howie was dumped at a relatives house when his owner decided she did not want him anymore. He was not welcome there either so Buffalo Pugs rushed over to get him out of there!
When we arrived it was late and dark, but there came Howie stumbling through the mud puddles up to our truck. He was filthy, underweight, soaking wet, roaming freely near the road and in obvious need of vet care. We had no idea that Howie was in this condition and had no idea that he would in no time melt our hearts like he has.
We rushed Howie in to see the vet. Poor Howie is allergic to fleas and has suffered their wrath for what the vet feels, has been years. He had a horrible tape worm infestation that has been treated and resolved. On the back end of his body, his skin has become elephant-like. Its thick, blackened from pigmentation and was covered with scabs and sores. He was quickly treated for fleas, but the damage had already been done. In an effort to soothe himself the only way he knows how, Howie had chewed and scratched himself until he broke the skin and bled. He has been taking prednisone and his skin has improved dramatically. The wonderful girls at Paw Springs groomed Howie and shaved some of his hair off so we could see and properly treat his boo-boos. He is now doing so much better. There is no more chewing or scratching and he is healing up nicely. His hair is even growing back in areas that were hair-less when he came into rescue!
Howie is also being treated for double ear infections. We found out that Howie had been hit by a car some time ago and has suffered some damage to one of his back legs. He does walk a little funny and lacks all muscle mass in that leg, but we are sure that he feels no pain. He does use his leg to the best of his ability, but after long periods of walking, he will rest this leg and compensate by using the others. When he first came into rescue, he could not walk down stairs or jump from the couch without taking a spill face first. He has been wearing a strong, padded harness so that his foster mom and dad can help him get down off the couch or down the stairs without falling. He can now jump down from the couch safely and handle a few stairs on his own, but will likely always need assistance when going down an entire flight of stairs.
Unfortunately, the vet gave us bad news that we did not see coming. The vet felt that Howies eye discharge was not due to infection, but as a result of Dry Eye (Medically known as Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca).
Howie was given a tear test and it showed that he is not producing any tears at all. To put it in perspective, without medication, his eyelids feel like sandpaper on his eyes. This condition has already caused some damage to his eyes. He may have lost some vision already. There is a medication in eye drop form called Cyclosporine, that he is currently being treated with. This may help, but we will not know for sure until he goes back to the vet to get his eyes checked again. If it does help, Howie will have to remain on it for life. It is costly, but it will be our only option to save Howies vision.
Howie is so worth it! He is a wonderful dog. His foster mom calls him perfect, but you should see for yourself! He is housebroken and will let you know when he has to go outside! He is so incredibly happy and will run to the door to greet you when you get home, with lots of snorts and a curly tail that is wagging at the speed of light! He loves to chew his bones and lounge in his dog bed. Howie never has to be in a crate. He does not chew or get in the garbage or take part in any of those dog-like behaviors! He gets along with other dogs and would likely be fine with cats as well. Howie would do fine in a home with children. He has a healthy appetite, and takes treats nicely. He walks well on his harness and loves to take walks through the neighborhood. He also rides in the car well and although he will need a little assistance getting out of the car, he waits patiently for you to make your way around to his door. He loves people and everyone he meets and likes to give kisses and snuggle on your lap! Howie would be an excellent therapy dog with a little more obedience training.
Medically, Howie will likely need to remain on the Cyclosporine eye drops for life. We also suggest a monthly topical flea treatment so that those little buggers never bother him again! Howie even takes his medication without making a fuss! If you spend just a few minutes with Howie, you will understand why we are so crazy for him. He is just an AWESOME little dude! We are certain that Howies perfect forever home is out there somewhere!
Howie is being fostered in Rochester.

Meet Chester! After his family could no longer care for him, Chester languished in a Canadian shelter, until BP&SBR stepped in.
This lovable boy, with that silly little underbite, would be a great addition to any family. At the age of four, Chester is quite eager to explore the world, and has no problem letting kids and canine companions explore it with him. He is an easygoing boy who loves the outdoors, and is in definite need of daily exercise. Despite his rough and tough appearance, Chester is a lover at heart, who misses his loved ones when they leave. Therefore it is important to crate him when you leave the house. It's clear that Chester is unusually smart. He is quick to learn new commands, and even knows to paw at the door when he needs to go outside.
Chester needs an active, loving home. He would do best with a family that is not away from home for long periods of time. After spending so much time at the shelter, he deserves to have the ones he loves with him to play the days away! Being part beagle, Chester can be a little tough to leash walk. His foster Mom is working with him and with the help of a harness, he is sure to improve. A home with room to run and play would be paradise for Chester! He loves his foster fur-brother and does well in a home with children. He is housebroken, loving and just an all around great Puggle! This guy is sure to find his forever home in no time!

Little Duke is a very active 7 year old pug. He was surrendered to Buffalo Pug because his family did not have enough time for him and they thought he would be happier with someone who had the time to spend with him. Duke is such a sweet little guy. He is friendly with all of his dog and cat foster brothers and sisters. He likes all the people he has met since coming into rescue. He is housebroken. He absolutely loves to eat and gobbles his food right down. He loves treats and begs for people food. He enjoys chewing rawhide bones. He is not very interested in the toys but he loves to play with people and smother them with kisses. Duke is a healthy pug with the exception of allergies that give him a cough. His previous owner said that she gave him a Claritin for that. Our veterinarian confirmed that was fine. Abby is another one of the Shih Tzu Mix sisters. She is very shy and it takes her some time to warm up to new people. But once she is comfortable, she is super loving. Abby is the biggest of the 4, weighing in at 12 lbs. She has a more black mask which makes her easily distinguishable from her sisters. Abby is good with other dogs, cats and would do best with older children as she sometimes is easily scared. She may actually benefit from being in a home with other dogs. Another dog might help coax her into trying new things. Her forever family will need to shower this sweet girl with LOTS of love so she comes out of her shell! Abby is scared of the outside. Its hard for us to imagine but it seems as if she was never out to experience it!
She will need further help with her leash training so she needs a patient human. She will also need further poddy training, but does use puppy pads well. Abby is so worth it. Think you have enough love for this sweet tzu?

Meet Pearl! She is an 8 month old Shih Tzu Mix. Pearl is a very petite girl weighing in at 9lbs and as sweet as they come. Buffalo Pug was asked by a very compassionate animal control officer to assist her with removing dogs from an uneducated backyard breeder who's home had become overrun with dogs.
We contacted the owner and she willingly surrendered 4 of her dogs to us. It was clear that she loved all of them but did not have the time or ability to give each one what they deserved. We picked them up and spent hours grooming them. They were matted and smelled terrible but underneath all that fur and dirt emerged the sweetest little shih tzu mixes we have ever seen!
Pearl, like her siblings has not been socialized and seems to be the most meek. She slowly has begun to approach people and although she may never be the outgoing type, she has more than enough love and devotion for a family that will love her back. She likes to snuggle and be brushed and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. She would do best with older children as she is easily frightened. She is still just a pup and her foster family is working on housebreaking her. Her forever family must be willing to continue on with her training. She is not used to wearing a collar or a leash, but has been making great strides in just the last few days and is always eager to go outside. She loves to lay in the sunshine and roll in the grass. Pearl will definitely make a great addition to any family that has the love and patience this sweet little one needs!!

She is now in search of her forever home where she can be the center of attention and won't have to compete with any other 4 legged furry ones for all the affection. She is an active and BEAUTIFUL little black pug with a beautiful shiny coat and the cutest little pug face. She will need an active home. One with a fenced in yard would be best so she can zip through the grass and get all that extra energy out! “Hello! My name is Dolly. I am a 10 month old Dachshund/Terrier mix puppy. I weigh 10 pounds. I was surrendered to a crowded shelter in Ohio. I don’t know why because I am so sweet and unbelievably cute! As a matter of fact… I’m ALL THAT!”
“The people at the shelter were so nice to me and they made sure
I got spayed and micro chipped and up to date on all my immunizations so I can be a happy, healthy girl. But they knew life in a cage was not the life for someone as special as me. They let Buffalo Pug and Small Breed Rescue come get me and now I am living with my foster family until my forever family is found. Could that be you??”
“The ideal family for me will probably not have any young children. I prefer to be the only baby you hold. I get along ok with other dogs as long as they realize that I am going to be the leader of the pack. When you are a princess, like me, you demand respect from all the other dogs. I think I can get along OK with a cat if you have one as long as we have time to get to know one another. I will go into a crate at bedtime if that’s necessary but, of course, in your bed is better. I do belong on your furniture since I am royalty. If you happen to be on the furniture too, I won’t mind. As a matter of fact I will snuggle up with you and take a nap. Another requirement of my family is that they have lots of toys and chewy things for me. Being a princess, I won’t be required to share any thing that tastes good. I will also expect to be given lots of love and have lots of fun. Oh, by the way, did I mention I was an excellent kisser?”
“If you think you are the forever home I am looking for please fill out an application for me today. With the help of my foster mom and dad, in Rochester, I will decide if I would fit well with your family. Watch the Buffalo Pug website to see when I will be at the Rochester adoption center.”

Stitch is 5 years old and was found as a stray in Georgia and was going to be euthanized because he tested positive for heart worm. A Michigan group rescued and treated him. They asked Buffalo Pugs to help in placing him and to have eye surgery performed to correct his cherry eye. He has had that surgery now and is doing fine although he will have to take heart worm preventative medicine for the rest of his life so as to not get it again.
Stitch is a very very sweet little guy who must come up to strange dogs and people FIRST, check them out and make friends. He does not like to be grabbed initially by strangers. He wants the first few sniffs! Therefore, we feel he would be better placed with older children who understand that they cannot grab and startle him. Once the first few sniffs are over he will jump right into your lap, give lots of kisses and get as much cuddling as he can. He will put his head on your chest and look into your eyes as if to say “You are mine”. He acts in a similar manner with strange dogs. He might snap at first if startled but then he is off playing with them as if he’s known them forever. He would be fine if placed with other dogs but would also be OK if placed alone. Spike is just a lovable snuggle bug...
LOL He is just to cute. We have no idea what happened to his poor ears but it was definitely man-made, not from a dog fight.
Stitch's heartworm is now good, however, he has cherry eye in one of his eyes that needs to be fixed. We are trying to raise some funds to help with this surgery as we have had a number of surgery's recently and they have all been a bit expensive. If you can help out at all, please click on the link to donate below! Stitch will put a smile on your face and will touch a place in your heart! Stitch's pictures do him no justice... in person he is even more adorable then his pictures. We would like to place Stitch in a home with kids at least 10 yrs old so they know not to go grabbing at him, but he loves to cuddle with them, he will make a wonderful best friend!

Hi I am Auggie!! I was surrendered because I did not get along with my fur brother too well! My owners thought Buffalo Pugs could help find me the right forever home!
Auggie just turned 3 in May is a beautiful 18 lb. red Boston Terrier. What makes him unique is 1/4 of his left eye is BLUE! Since being with his foster family for the past month, he has grown into such a more confident boy. When he first came, he bonded with his foster mom immediately, but it took him about 7 or 8 days to warm up to his foster dad. He persistently worked with Auggie, being the one to feed and take him out, and now Auggie shows his love with happy dances! He didn’t get along with the male dog in his previous home, but he loves his foster fur sisters. Auggie especially likes to play with the 1 year old English Bulldog. He does not do well around other dogs with anxiety, and does best with balanced females. He really enjoys the company of other dogs, so his perfect home will includes a fur sister or two!
He does well on walks, but just for short distances. He is a good boy in his crate and behind a baby gate. Auggie loves sleeping in bed under the covers with his people, but will do fine in his own bed as well. He is housebroken and doesn’t mark. He is very nervous on car rides, so his foster mom got him a special shirt to help with his anxiety called a “Thundershirt”. He is much better on short rides now, but still does not care for long rides. Auggie goes with his foster mom to work every day since it is so close, and is a very good boy at the office. He could also very easily be left at home for up to 8 hours without a potty break.
Auggie's favorite thing ever is playing & TOYS! He love squeeky toys best, but if you give him a stuffie, he will happily destroy it in minutes with a smile on his face. He loves to run & play outside, so his ideal home will have a fenced yard. His second favorite thing would be snuggling. He is very happy to cuddle up with you on the couch for the night. Auggie gets quite nervous around children, so if there are kids in the household, they must be older and dog savy.

Rugby is a 3 year old pug/shihtzu mix. Rugby was surrendered to BPSBR because his owners felt they didn't have enough time for him.
Rugby is a GREAT boy! He is housebroken and knows a few basic commands. He is always ready to sit for a treat and eager to hop in the front seat and go for a ride. He is absolutely smitten with his foster sister! They are always together prancing around. He shares his food, toys and treats graciously with other dogs and people. Rugby is also great with children. He has lived with them in the past and has been wonderful with every child he has met! He knows to be gentle and tends to give LOTS of puggie kisses! We feel Rugby would thrive with a family that has lots of love and attention to give. He listens well and has beautiful house manners. He does pull a bit on the leash and although he doesn't like wearing a harness, he walks much more nicely when he is wearing it. Sometimes he is a little scared of strangers, as he was when he met his foster mom, but he warms up quickly and they have now become snuggle buddies. He is very affectionate towards people and would do great in active home that has the time and love that he truly deserves! He does need to be brushed often to keep his coat healthy and his shedding at a minimum but he doesnt mind, especially if he gets a treat in return for his patience! Think you have the forever home Rugby deserves?

UPDATE 6/17: Tiny recently had her luxating patella surgery. Her knees were quite bad, but are now fixed! Tiny is doing very well after her knee surgery so far. She will be on very limited activity (just short potty walks) until her re-check on June 23 at the vet. Then she will, according to her discharge instructions be on only short leash walks for 2 months. She has been so good about it all. She just started to bear some weight on that leg today, otherwise has been only using three legs on the potty walks. She will be on the pain meds and antibiotics a few more I can see she is a great dog but as you mentioned she probably would be happiest being an only dog as she is very possessive about her food, toys and her bed.
Sadly, Tiny was found left alone with Smokie. She was not crated. Her owner passed away and a family member called BP&SBR to help them.
Tiny is a very sweet girl. However, she was very frightened when found. She barked, stomped her feet and took a few steps backwards. She had no idea who these strange people were. She did not like them coming into her home without her mom being there. She is now very sweet but still gets a bit startled by strangers. She does NOT bite but only barks for a bit until she knows who they are. She loves to snuggle and is very well behaved in the home! Tiny would be a great companion for an older person and calm environment. She behaves well with children, however would do better with grand kids, nieces, nephews, etc. Children coming in and out and new friends would cause her to stress. She is very loving! She also is fine with other dogs, however does not like them approaching her. She would do best with an older dog or as an only dog. She probably would not appreciate a young playful dog. She also is a tad overweight and should loose a
few pounds. She seems accustomed to being fed table food. She actually gets excited and begs for it. This habit needs to be broken.! Otherwise, she is a very easy, sweet girl!

Meet Cooper! This cutie is ready to go to his forever home and we are happy to help him get there. He is four years old and weighs about 24 pounds. Cooper is very playful, and LOVES toys...any kind of toys. He is also very cuddly and loves to snuggle up on your lap and get scratched. He is house trained and is good with other dogs and children . He loves to run like a mad man in the backyard. He is not all that comfortable on the leash, but we are working with him on that. He would do much better with a securely fenced in yard versus having to leash walk for exercise and potty breaks. Cooper is excellent in the crate. Very quiet and content to be in there even if someone is home.
Wow! Cooper sounds like a perfect dog, doesn't he?? If you think so, submit your online application for Cooper today! Cooper is being fostered in Buffalo.
Cooper is being returned to rescue because his family didn't have enough time to spend with him. He is really a sweet boy and we are hoping to find him another loving family. He loves to snuggle on the couch near you.

Hi, My name is Flash! I was found in a house alone and afraid. My owner was sick and ended up in the hospital and I was left for 4 days. I was then turned over to the SPCA where they evaluated me and found out that I didn't like my toys or food taken away from me. So they called Buffalo Pugs to help me out.
I am a very sweet and loving boy. I love attention and I LOVE my treats so I am going to need a diet. I am about 18 pounds over weight but losing it gradually with the help of my foster mom. I am very quiet and very well behaved and I hardly make a sound. Sometimes you would never know I am there. I am also housebroken and will bark and get excited when I need to go out. I am not too bad about my food you can hand feed me and I am good about getting treats I just would not like to be interrupted while I am eating. So far my foster mom has had no trouble at all about this. I am, however, better off as an only dog... I don't mind being around them but I don't like to share anything with another dog. If you are willing to provide Flash the perfect retirement home he deserves, please submit your application for him today. Flash is being fostered in Buffalo.
Update 05/12/09 It has been a few weeks and Flash is doing very good on his diet. He has lost 10 lbs so far and now weighs 55 lbs. His foster mom says he is the easiest foster she has ever had! He loves to be outside and will go charging at the door the minute he sees his leash! Flash loves to go on walks and he even loves to hang out in the barn. For a beagle, he is very quiet, does not howl or carry on about anything. However, once he is in for a rest he does not like to be disturbed and will let you know if you bother him, but he is very easy to handle just show him his leash and he is off to the door again! He only has about 8 to 10 more lbs to go and will be feeling like a pup again in no time!

This sweet, senior pug gal is Katie. She spent her whole life with one family, only to be dropped off at the shelter when they moved. We knew we had to help this girl find her forever home and family. This girl may be 9 years old, but she still has the heart and playfulness of a puppy. She just needs a family to share her love of life with.
Katie came to us with a urinary tract infection and bad skin condition. She has been treated for her infection and her skin is doing much, much better. She will still require regular medicated baths and a good diet, but that is a small price to pay to have such a wonderful, loving, lifelong companion. Katie is completely house trained and is great in the house. She is a little possessive of her people so would love to be in a home where she doesn't have to share too much of the loving. She would do best in an adult only home, or one with older kids. She loves the teenagers in her foster home and of course, her foster mom. If you are willing to commit to Katie forever, please submit your application for her today. Katie is being fostered in Buffalo.

She would do fine in a home with children of any age, other dogs or even cats!

Meet Piper! Piper is a sweet yorkshire terrier that was picked up as a stray by animal control and when we found out the shelter was going to euthanize, Buffalo Pugs knew we had to step in and help this cutie out! Not much is known about her. But, it is evident that this little one has recently had a litter of pups and is very skinny! Piper has an eye infection and ulcerated foot pads so she will not be available for adoption until she finishes taking her medication and her infections have cleared up. She was recently spayed, and once her stitches are removed, she will be able to have a full grooming and look her best. She has been great with her foster sister so far and has not made a peep! Right now, she is not feeling her best, so please check back for further updates and new pictures of this beautiful girl.
UPDATE 7/1/2010! Piper has been taking her medicine and she is starting to really come out of her shell. She is great with the other dogs in her foster home and loves to play with them. She is sweet as can be with her foster mom and dad. She is always wagging her tail and ready to snuggle. She has only had a few "accidents" in the house and as long as she gets out often enough, she has none at all. Her feet and eyes are slowly looking better. Later this week, Piper will go back to the vet for a follow up appointment and to get her stitches removed. Once she is given a clean bill of health, this darling will be available for adoption! Everyday, Piper has a little more spunk to her! She is truly a beautiful girl inside and out and would do well in any family that has lots of love to give!

Lucky is a very sweet and gentle boy who came to us from an overcrowded shelter in Ohio. He is 8 years old, but don't let his age fool you! He is a very playful and inquisitive boy with a sweet disposition. Lucky feels very fortunate and lucky to be rescued. He was a stray before the shelter got him. When one of our Buffalo Pug and Small Breed Rescue volunteers saw his picture she knew he needed to come to us. When Lucky was found he was extremely dirty, so who knows what he's been through. With a bath, nice brushing and grooming, and lots of love and affection, Lucky really came out of his shell. He continues to show his foster family how grateful he is to finally get some much needed and deserved love and attention.
Lucky is a truly happy and mellow boy that wants to know what everyone is doing in his foster home. He just wants to be around humans at all times. He gets along well with children of all ages, and loves playing with other dogs. He doesn't seem to have an aggressive bone in his body. Lucky loves to play with his dog toys, romping outside with his foster sister Zoey, and going for walks in the park. He would make a great addition to any family as he is very low maintenance and house-trained. He has proven he can be trusted and gets to sleep on a comfy dog bed at night and while we are away, but he is crate-trained as well. He is working on and learning quickly basic commands very well in his foster home. He absolutely loves affection and being petted, and will look at you with very loyal and grateful eyes. It is very difficult to not fall in love with this little guy.
Won't you come down and visit Lucky this weekend at our East Rochester adoption center? His pictures just don't do him enough justice; he is much more handsome in person! He is waiting to meet you, so come visit him and the other wonderful dogs today!

Being stuck in a shelter is no way to spend your days when you are an energetic little terrier. Chloe is a 2 year old terrier mix girl. We knew we would be picking up 3 others from an over crowded shelter but Chloe was there waiting for us too. When we met her we were hooked. So Chloe came along with us and we are so glad she did!
Chloe was surrendered to the shelter because her owner was being investigated on a cruelty case. She is very sweet and very smart. We discovered that she knows all about playing ball and is happy to play at any time. She also knows sit and speak and we are watching to see what other tricks she has up her sleeve. She is so cute bounding through the yard waiting for you to throw the ball. She gets along fine with other dogs except if she is eating or chewing on a rawhide bone. She will growl at the other dogs if they come near. Chloe is not a fan of cats and barks at and chases them. She can not be adopted by a family that has a cat. She is used to sleeping in a crate but will voice her dissatisfaction about it when she first goes in. So far she has had no “accidents” in the house. Her shelter mom said she is a flight risk so she will likely do best in a fenced yard, but we will consider all applications.
If you are looking for a sweet little companion who will always be at your side, sitting on your lap, playing ball, or snuggling up in bed with you, then Chloe is the perfect girl for you. Chloe is being fostered in Rochester.

Meet Coach! Coach is an 8 year old Boston Terrier. Coach was removed from a puppy mill situation and ended up in an overcrowded Ohio Shelter. After 6 months at the shelter, Buffalo Pugs decided it was high time for Coach to find his loving, forever home! Little Coach didnt receive normal vet care for most of his life and now has only 2 teeth left! His lips have become a little droopy and he sports a permanent pout. We think its charming! He is a quirky little guy who is looking for someone that he can devote all his love too!
Don't let his age fool you! He is very active, has quite a jump and loves to get on the floor and play with his human! He might just gum you to death! He is a typical boston! He snorts and snores and is very alert to what is going on at all times. Coach is quite the lovebug though! He is perfectly content laying between your feet, sitting in your lap or just snuggling on the couch. He just wants to be near you.
Coach doesn't let anything stop him. Even without all his teeth, he eats well. He can eat kibble alone but it seems easier for him to pick it up when it is mixed with soft food. He loves rawhides and piggy ears. Even though he doesn't make much progress with them, he enjoys going through the motions.
Coach has very good manners. He walks well on the leash, and is quiet in his crate. He is very calm and well behaved with children and would do just fine in a home with children of any age. He likes car rides and is always eager to hop in as soon as the door opens. Coach is mostly housebroken. Since coming to his foster home, he has not had any accidents! Repetition and praise will help further reinforce this.
Coach only wants humans on his team! While at the shelter, coach had been bitten by another dog. Without teeth, he had no form of defense or protection. He tolerates the presence of his foster sister, but doesn't like her much or most other dogs for that matter. Although Coach would not be able to harm any other dogs, we are more concerned with another dog's response to him and the harm that could cause. Therefore, Coach will need to be the only dog in the home. Coach is such a special guy and needs a loving family that will give him the attention and affection that he yearns for!

Meet Jake! Unfortunately Jake has been the victim of a backyard breeder for all of his years. He was removed from that situation and placed in an Ohio shelter. He came into the shelter with mange, which has now been treated and his fur is growing back in nicely. We heard that Jake was an awesome little guy. Buffalo pugs couldnt leave a nice guy like this behind, so he was taken from the shelter to start a new life. As it turns out, awesome is an understatement! Jake may be small, standing proud at a whopping 12.5lbs, but he is jam packed with charm and personality! He is a goofy little guy, who loves attention and gets along with everyone! He wiggles and spins in circles when he is excited and loves nothing more than to roll on his back and get his tummy rubbed!
The vet believes that Jake is about 10 years old. When it comes to Jake, age is just a number! He is very active and loves to jump up on his human's lap for a nap or just some snuggle time. Poor Jake's vision is impaired. He can see fairly well, but may have lost some of his perephial vision, as he some times bumps in to things that are next to him. But, Jake doesn't seem to let anything stop him. He is very inquisitive and alert to whats going on around him.
He loves car rides and looking out the window as the world flashes by. Jake has behaved beautifully with all the children that he has met and would do fine with or without the companionship of another dog. Jake is housebroken and will go to the door when he has to go out. He is taking full advantage of the new life he has begun and you will find him rearranging your couch pillows to his liking, hiding his toys in what he thinks are inconspicuous places and lounging belly up in his dog bed. Jake is a joyful little guy. The only thing Jake lacks is a forever home with a human that can give him the love that he truly deserves. Could that be you? This love-bug is not going to last long!

Meet Kelly! Kelly is a 3 year old Boston Terrier. Poor Kelly has spent her entire life the victim of a backyard breeder. She was removed from that situation by law enforcement and ended up in a shelter in Ohio along with her 3 nursing pups, who she struggled to nurse as she was emaciated herself. She had a bad case of demadectic mange and showed the tell tale signs of puppy milling. Her puppies we adopted from the shelter but Kelly was left behind. Buffalo Pugs refused to forget about her like the rest of the world had seemed to do.
Kelly is often scared of new things. Her first walk through the neighborhood was such a beautiful event. She was unsure at first and would belly crawl when she was nervous. With some coaxing, she continued on and became more and more inquisitive along the way! She buried her nose into every flower she passed, pawed at the bushes and checked out every fire-hydrant and tree stump in sight! The world is new to Kelly, but she sure seems ready to experience it all! She is so sweet and loving with people and returns the love they give her tenfold! Kelly does not like to share her food or treats with other dogs. This may change as she realizes that food will no longer be withheld from her. She is fine sharing with people and when she is pet while eating, she will part with her food to get some "lovins" instead.
Kelly would do best as an only dog. We feel that this little lady deserves the royal treatment from now on. She would do best with an adult or couple. She is fine with older, teenage children, but will not be placed with younger children as she is startled easily. Kelly will need an owner that is dedicated to furthering her potty training, and obedience training. It will take time, but she aims to please and with repetition and positive reinforcement, we are sure it can be done! Kelly needs an owner that is compassionate and that understands that her journey to a new life will take time. She yearns for affection and love and seems to want to trust humans again. Kelly is being fostered in Rochester. Think you can be the hero Kelly needs? Submit your adoption application today!

Abraham is one of the bigger fawn boys with much taller legs. They stand double the height of 5 of his siblings!! He is more rough and tough, but that's only because he is also a few pounds bigger then them. The 3 bigger boys rough house together much more then the other shorter smaller ones!!
We have no idea who the daddy is, so as far as mix and full grown size, we have no idea! We do know they have a little Jack Russell in them. Mary has the colors and the height of a Jack Russell along with Gracie's looks and height! All pups are playful, loving and energetic as pups should be! For some reason Grace started to pick on little Mary when Mary turned about 3 weeks old. I am not sure why, but she would look at her and growl, nudge her a lot and even snap at her even while Mary was resting. I did not intervene, however just kept close watch! After a while and after talking with a friend, we decided Gracie was teaching Mary something!! I am not too sure what it was and I was not able to figure it out. However ,within the last week Gracie has stopped and Mary must have learned the lesson! We did not want to take Mary away and have her miss out on a valuable lesson whatever it may have been!!
